You can spread the revenue for subscriptions (longer than 1 month) over multiple periods. You do this by indicating in the settings of your accounting package that you want to spread the revenue.
At the moment, revenue spreading is only possible with the integration with Twinfield and Exact Online.
Twinfield
Besides indicating that you want to spread revenue, you also specify which general ledger account this should be posted to (often 'deferred revenue').
Twinfield uses a start month and end month. Therefore, we cannot spread revenue very precisely. We determine the start month and end month based on the day as described in the example below:
If the day on which the cycle begins is less than 16, we use the month of the start date, and the end date is -1 month.
If the day on which the cycle begins is greater than 15, we take the start date month +1 and use the month of the end date.
Examples:
Invoiced cycle: December 12, 2024 to December 11, 2025
Will be booked: from 2024/12 to 2025/11
Invoiced cycle: December 21, 2024 to December 20, 2025
Will be booked: from 2025/01 to 2025/12
This way, we prevent revenue from being incorrectly spread over 13 months in Twinfield and ensure an even distribution for subsequent cycles.
Exact Online
In Simplicate, you only need to indicate whether you want to use revenue spreading. Simplicate will then send the data from and to when the revenue should be spread. Further processing and logic take place in Exact, which is less complex than with the Twinfield integration!
