Insights: Hours in detail – Corrections

Written by Simplicate Support

A correction is an upward or downward adjustment on logged hours: hours that were worked but not (fully) charged to the client. The Corrections report isolates those entries so you can see how much is being corrected and — more importantly — for what reason.

Because a downward correction removes value, the amounts and hours shown here are usually negative. If the totals keep growing, that is a signal: more work is consistently being done than can be invoiced.

Report structure

At the top is the report group filter bar; below it is the Total block with the KPIs Correction hours and Correction value, the charts Correction reason (in value) and Correction reason (in hours), and the Detailed view of corrections (the table).

Correction reason (in value)

Shows the corrected value broken down by the reason recorded with the correction, so you can see at a glance where value is leaking. If Over budget at own expense is the largest bar, budgets are consistently being exceeded; if Learning path is at the top, most of the corrections relate to training time.

Corrections without a reason are grouped under a dash. If that turns out to be the largest entry, it is primarily a reason to agree on stricter recording of correction reasons.

Correction reason (in hours)

The same breakdown, but in hours instead of euros. The two do not always move in sync: many hours at a low rate may cost less value than a handful of hours from a high-rate specialist. Compare the two charts side by side to see whether a reason costs mainly time or mainly money.

Detailed view of corrections

Where the charts aggregate, the table shows each correction individually: when it was logged, on which project and hour type, by whom and for what reason. Use Columns to choose which columns are visible and Export to download the data for further analysis.

Note the difference between two dates in this table: Date is the day the hour was logged, Correction date is the day the correction was booked. These can be months apart; Registration month helps you link the correction back to the period it belongs to.
