Active and inactive services

Several factors influence whether a service in the project is displayed under active services or under inactive services.

In Simplicate, you can work with three types of services: fixed price, actual costing, and subscriptions. In this article, we will go through the factors that influence making services active or inactive. Would you like more information about the advantages and disadvantages per billing method? Before delving deeper into the different services, it's good to know: what is considered as an inactive service in Simplicate? When a service is inactive, it means that the service has been terminated. However, the service is still accessible for hour registrations and corrections, but simply disappears into the background.

Within a project, a terminated service is moved to the 'inactive services' tab. The inactive status of a service in the project therefore only has visual consequences. The separation of active and inactive services leads to a better overview for management.

Inactive services are no longer shown in the search window of the registration tab. An inactive status also has consequences for indexations of services. Inactive services are not shown during indexations. Would you like more information about indexations? Click on this link.

Fixed Price

Fixed price services are characterized by the fixed rate that is used. Choosing hour registrations, time windows, and terms influences whether a fixed price service on a project is active or inactive.

For fixed price services without hour registrations, but with cost registrations, only the duration of the cost registration can be entered as a period. The date entered for the cost registration has no influence whatsoever on making the service active or inactive. Only when the service has been invoiced will it become inactive.

The overview below shows the different scenarios that influence the status of the service:

Term

Active

Inactive

Yes

<100% invoiced

100% invoiced

No

Time window is present

Time window is future or past

When fixed price services in terms are 100% invoiced, the service is therefore always inactive.

Actual Costing

For actual costing services, the time window determines the active or inactive status of the service. If the time registration falls within the specified start and end date, the service is active. If the time registration falls outside the specified start and end date, for example in the past or in the future, the service is inactive.

For actual costing services, the date range of the hour registration is the only factor that influences the status of the service. The duration of the cost registration therefore has no influence on the status of the service here either.

Subscriptions

For subscriptions, the following rule of thumb applies: If the current date falls within the time window (between the start and end date) of the 'duration', the service is active. If the time window is in the past or in the future, the service is inactive.
